A kinetic study of Hg(0) oxidation over Mo-promoted V-based SCR catalyst

A kinetic study of elemental mercury (Hg(0)) oxidation reaction over molybdenum (Mo)-promoted vanadium (V)-based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst was carried out. To probe the role HCl and O2 in Hg(0) catalyst, a real-time experiment conducted. It found that adsorption negligible adsorbed onto surface could show consistent performances presence at realistic SCR temperatures. NH3 showed competitive with HCl, resulting degrading performance. X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure (XANES) data for species HgCl2 major formed spent under typical flue gas conditions. Based on current previous studies, an Eley-Rideal followed by Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism proposed, comprising multiple elementary steps. steady-state conducted based assumption HgCl formation as rate-determining step. The thermodynamic parameters determined from this shed light fundamental insights practical reactor designs.
